A little sketch

A lot of the time I have no idea what to draw and it makes it hard to create art I'm happy with. The other day though, I thought of my old favourite, who I've only actually drawn maybe once or twice before, and got such a strong image of a picture to draw that I went ahead and did it. It was actually Guybrush so I thought it would be fun to upload it here, since he's a namesake on this blog. I was pretty pleased with how it came out. I didn't use a reference though so there are a whole heap of mistakes, but it was fun. Here he is!

I've had a pretty chaotic couple months, what with moving house, doing work for clients and a busy time at work, but now I hope to spend a bit more time on this blog. We'll see how it goes!

Trying to relax

I've been feeling kind of lost recently, and struggling to think about what I want to do in the near future. Not only that but I feel like I've fallen into an art rut, where I've hardly been drawing or creating anything, and if I think about doing stuff for myself I feel guilty as I have a few paid work jobs I should be doing and I've been putting them off. It's been stressing me out a lot, so last night I decided to throw it all to the wind and just relax and draw whatever the heck I wanted, even if it was generic and stupid and not pushing myself artistically at all. Just something to enjoy and relax. It felt great.

I'm actually kind of happy with the result, so I'll share it here too. :) Nothing revolutionary, just the kind of thing I like to draw, and haven't drawn in a long, long time. I hope I just relax and start drawing more, and not stress so much!

Welcome to Brushwood Bramble!

Hello! Welcome! Make yourself at home, maybe grab a cuppa and snuggle into your blankie a bit tighter (it's pretty cold outside right now, I wish I had something warmer myself!) This is just a tiny introduction to my new blog. So far my intention is basically to use it for little thoughts, updates on life, blathering on if I want to, and of course any updates on art projects I'm working on. I have a few ideas I've been considering for a while, and I'm hoping that creating some kind of log might prompt me to actually get started on them. We'll see in any case, haha.

So yes, although the intention so far is for this to be a blog basically for myself, if you'd like to join me for any or all of it, you're more than welcome. Huzzah!

Also, I guess I'll explain the thoughts behind the title of this blog, so I don't forget in the future. I tried to think of things that I really like or that meant something to me, and my mind drifted to an old computer game that I love and adore called The Secret of Monkey Island, and then to the main character from it... Guybrush Threepwood. Taking the last parts of his names gives "Brushwood", which I discovered is actually the name of a paperbark tree that grows right here in South Australia, so it felt appropriate. "Bramble" because this blog might end up as a prickly mess of thoughts and ideas, with the occasional sweet berry being found amongst the thorns. Also it sounded nice together, haha. Not too deep, but there you go.

So... onwards to exploration and personal growth...! :D
